Day 88: Watershed Shopping — Penguins — Cape Point — Cafe Paradiso
It was bound to happen at some point: One of us had to go to the doctor! It was I. For the last two weeks, I’ve had an annoying/concerning tickle deep in my right ear. I’d come to convince myself that there was a bug in there. I know. Horrifying.
So I got a recommendation and saw Dr. Pedro Monteiro at the Christiaan Barnard Hospital down near the Waterfront. It was gleaming white brand new facility that looked more like an ad agency than hospital.
No bug. Just earwax. Got it all resolved, plus a prescription for some drops, and was on my way — relieved.
Met the gang over at the Watershed shopping market at the Waterfront, where Lobsy was doing some damage. I got an apron for Joanna — a local textile designer called Shine Shine with a funny print that made me think of her. Regret not getting more of the fabric.

This is the one I got her. Sassy lady saying “Don’t stand in my light.”
“Hooray for the president”
From there we drove the scenic route along Haut Bay and Chapman’s Peak Drive (insanely gorgeous) over to Simon’s Town where we saw the penguins again at Boulders Beach.
(Lobsy doesn’t mind riding in the backseat middle with these two lucky nerds:)

The penguins were a hit with Lobsy!
After that we drove further south down to Cape Point, where we parked at the Cape of Good Hope and sat on the rocky beach for a while, enjoying exploring and watching the waves.
We didn’t see any baboons despite the signs (and a truck that said “baboon management” on the side) but we did see a lone ostrich having a fynbos snack on the side of the road as we left.

We got back to Cape Town in time for a 6:30 pm dinner at Willa and James’s all-time favorite restaurant, Cafe Paradiso! And in a stunning twist, their little buddy Lynn from Plett, the one they played with at the Newstead Winery, was at the table next to us! Incredible.
The kids went back to the kitchen for pizza-making, and later, cookie-making with their friend. Teddy, Lobsy and I enjoyed G&Ts and some Spier chenin blanc well into the evening. The kids didn’t go to bed until 10!
