Day 55: Hello Cape Town!
Cape Town is not close to much of anything — but man is it worth the effort once you arrive.
We left for the airport in São Paulo at 2:30pm on Wednesday. We walked into our house in Cape Town 19 hours later at 2:30pm local time. None of us slept much at all, with the flight leaving at 5:30 pm and landing at 2:30 am São Paulo time (7:30 in Johannesburg.)

We then connected from Jo’burg to Cape Town, rented a car and somehow managed to safely maneuver it to our house despite getting zero sleep and driving on the left side of the road for the first time in my life.
We landed to perfect weather — 70s and sunny without any humidity. And our house is super cool, quirky and feels really big compared to what we are used to. It’s nice to have some room to spread out. More about the house in later posts.
We had our first of (likely) several meals at neighborhood spot Cafe Paradiso. They have a “kids projects” space in the back where Willa and James made pizza and decorated cookies while the grownups had G&Ts, antipasta and salads for dinner out on the patio. So many reasons to love this city but it was especially nice to be in an English speaking country after 7 weeks of Spanish and Portuguese.
After dinner we walked to Woolworths (aka Wolly’s) to stock the house for our 2.5 week stay.
