Day 16: Lake Titicaca Farmland Wandering

Our lodge isn’t used to kids, so their excursions weren’t exactly tailored to 4- and 6-year-olds.

We went off menu and asked them if they could just take us around the local village and surrounding farms. It was a great call.

Alberth our guide was clearly happy with this outing. He drove us 30 minutes down the dirt road, stopping for every flock of sheep and puppy we saw.

We eventually got out and walked up a gorgeous hillside to an overlook, stopping to examine beetles, flowers, interesting rocks, etc. Alberth is a naturalist and wanted to show us everything.

He and James were holding hands leading the group.

It was precisely the sort of outing our kids need and love. I will remember it fondly.

After lunch we were supposed to go back to the reeds with Alberth (needed to check on our hatchlings!!) but it was too windy.

Instead we did school — Willa prepared some journal entries about her day to share with her classmates back in NYC, and James logged an entry in his journal too.

There was tea time followed by playing in Willa’s “happy place,” the rocks outside our lodge. She loves climbing and exploring. We talked about the three kinds of rocks (admittedly had to Google to remember what they are).

The kids ate early, then had a bath and iPad time on the sofa while we ate a nice dinner. Early to bed!
