Day 12: Travel day from Colombia to Peru — Approx 6 meltdowns
We know the kids will get better at this. They’re not that bad as is but it was a long day — but we’re working on it.
Flew from Cartagena to Bogota, then Bogota to Lima (about 3 hours).

Bedheaded and scabby after Colombia.
Sugar is not great for behavior at airports.
Landed in Lima around 8:30 pm, and Teddy’s mom Lila aka “Lobsy” landed at 9:30 — it was great to see her.
We had a transfer to the Belmond Park Miraflores hotel in the Miraflores neighborhood overlooking the Pacific.
Got in late and crashed!
Observations/notes/learnings:
- We have the Chase Sapphire Visa, which gets us access to airport lounges around the world. Pretty handy. The one in Bogota was lovely and even had a little jungle-y kids’ area.We tried to limit iPad time on the long flight but I think everyone loses in that scenario. Prob won’t try it again.
- I watched “Bird Box” and really thought it was dumb.
- Wrapping up reading “Love in the Time of Cholera” and now we’re both reading “Turn Right at Machu Picchu.”
- Willa loves airplane food, and ate not just her own little wilted salad but James’s too!
- Meltdowns happen when small people are tired and hungry. Duh!!

Waiting in Lima for Lobsy!
Moment of silence at the Cartagena airport for Bogota bombing this week.
Teddy reads over Peru
Lobsy landed! Headed to hotel.
