Day 245: Meet with Phil — Chili Crabs!
This morning we arranged to have breakfast at Phil’s hotel, the Four Seasons, and then have a several-hour Meeting About Our Life, since he’s indeed our financial advisor.

I was worried that having this meeting would feel like a giant record-scratch on our good time…but it was fine. Feels good to think through and talk about Life After the Adventure.
More on that below.
The kids were tranquilized by iPads during the meeting.
Afterward we walked back to our place for some quiet time. With our new art supplies, the kids have been having a blast drawing and creating. And we got jump ropes at their request, and they’ve been busy practicing.
By 5:30 we were back in a Grab to Palm Beach, a waterfront restaurant owned by Gail’s uncle that apparently launched the whole chili crab food obsession in Singapore. Our dinner reservation was with Phil and the Tans again.
Our table had a lovely view out onto the Marina Bay Sands hotel (that’s an infinity pool up there across the three hotel towers!).
We had beers and enjoyed the different crabs, which were way meatier than Maryland crabs and whose shells were thicker, more like lobster.
A fun treat followed by ice cream next door. The kids didn’t get to bed until 10, though. Ugh.
Life After the Adventure
I didn’t even want to talk about post-trip life until about the halfway mark of this year — it felt too sad. But now we’re openly talking about it and having fun thinking about what’s next.
We’re definitely moving back to NYC and putting the kids back in school in January. Where we’ll live and what we’ll do for a living is totally up in the air, though.
I’ve been mulling writing a short book, and have been putting the pieces of a treatment/outline/proposal together — aim to spend more time thinking that through in Indonesia when we have a lot of down time.
