Day 172: Fly to Copenhagen — Meet Up With Lobsy and Beepaw Brendan!

We hit the breakfast buffet one last time and then had a stress-free packup and departure from the NH Amsterdam City Center. Bye Julia and Nate!!!!

Thankfully we left ourselves plenty of time because the security line at the airport took about 35 – 40 minutes. Willa and James were shockingly good. Willa read her kindle in line for the first time.

The flight was only about an hour. The kids were fine on the plane of course (thanks to iPads) but were antsy and futsy when we got off — especially James who was being a pain in the ass, pestering the hell out of his sister who engages until he inevitably goes too far and then she wails for help. So annoying.

His new thing when I get on him for bothering Willa and then asking for sweets or juice is to say, “That’s just how I live.” He means, “I’m 5 and I can’t help myself… I pester my sister and crave sugar… it’s just what I do.” Funny now but man I wanted to kill him in the airport.

We took a taxi to the hotel.

My dad reeeaally doesn’t like to travel so the only way my mom could get him to meet us was the promise of (a) direct flight and (b) nice hotel.

They flew overnight from Dulles to Copenhagen direct.

And they booked us all in the Hotel d’Angleterre. It’s the fanciest hotel in Copenhagen and I assume the nicest we’ll stay in all year. Oh man, we feel like imposters.

But it was so nice to see my parents. And the kids were beyond excited.

After we got settled we all met for drinks and snacks at the hotel’s sidewalk cafe, watching the bicycle rush hour in Copenhagen.

Dinner was around the corner at Fiat, a really tasty Italian spot. We had a great table for 6 on this raised up platform outside in their courtyard.

Food tour tomorrow!
