Day 157: Lunch at Palm Beach Restaurant — Several Naps on Palombaggia Beach
Another heavenly Mediterranean vacation day.
Dave got up and ran, Teddy worked out too — then they joined us after for coffee and breakfast out on the deck.
Joanna and Dave set out to explore Porto Vecchio and do some grocery shopping while we did school. They got carrots for the horses!

We all met up again around noon to walk down the beach toward lunch.
There’s a cluster of restaurants at Palombaggia Beach, and we walked up to “Palm Beach,” where we were seated on the covered wooden deck.
The grownups had wine and some Italian — pizza, pasta, etc. — and the kids were generally very well behaved. It was so great. Exactly what we were after.
After lunch we walked back toward our place on the beach and found an empty stretch of sand. Put up our umbrellas and everyone promptly fell asleep.
Once again the clouds drove us back to the house after an hour or two. The kids were so completely sound asleep that it took a good 15 minutes to rouse them and motivate them to walk back to the house.
We had an awesome aperitif spread — Buff made her tuna dip — and enjoyed it out by the pool with some rose.
The kids had fun joining us with some Orangina and asking a lot of questions like, “What are your top three favorite foods?” etc.
For dinner we grilled mixed meat kebabs, asparagus and baby potatoes, staying up late out on the deck.
Misc: This setup here is so great for the kids. They haven’t had tons of unstructured time this year, so to give the a big field and a house and a pool to roam freely for days on end has been a gift.
It’s also funny to see them through the eyes of people who haven’t seen them in a while. They are suddenly so engaging, funny and polite with grownups. There’s no question this trip has catapulted them ahead on the maturity front. They ain’t perfect, but they’re good kids — and sometimes it takes seeing them in a new environment to recognize it.
