Day 154: Goodbye Hotel Cheyenne — Breakfast in La Vallee Village— Flight to Corsica with Screaming Kids — Final Episode of Game of Thrones

I took a jog this morning around Disney Village, weaving around early bird families pushing strollers to the gates of the Park. I can’t say I was envious of any of them. Two days of Disney was enough for me.

We packed up and checked out of the Hotel Cheyenne but had some time to kill before a 2pm flight to Corsica.

We Ubered a couple miles to a newly built luxury shopping center / office park called La Vallee Village. It felt more like Pasadena than Paris.

We had breakfast at a big, clean Pret a Manger then walked about 10 minutes to a post office to mail a bunch of stuff back to DC.

I love a successful mailing mission. It is so satisfying when we’re back to our “fighting weight” of 1 roller bag and 1 backpack per person. Since we just ditched the stroller this is actually the lightest we’ve been at any time on the trip. Such a good feeling.

We caught another Uber from the post office, back to the luggage storage room at the Hotel Cheyenne — thankfully we didn’t have to go back in the madhouse of a lobby at that place — then headed for Charles de Gaulle. Our driver was a really nice and talkative Senagalese guy who chatted up Margaret for the whole ride.

I can’t remember a flight with more screaming babies and toddlers. We felt bad for all the parents who looked like they wanted their vacations to end before they even began.

Margaret took Willa to pick up the rental car while James helped me get the luggage.

The kids are usually at their worst at airports after multiple hours of zoning out with the iPad. They wrestle and futz with each other, annoying the hell out of me and Margaret.

Splitting them up is the answer. Today James was an angel, helpful with the bags and playing outside the airport by himself while we waited for Margaret and Willa to swing around and pick us up.

We drove 30 minutes or so to our villa near Plage de Palombaggia outside of Porto-Vecchio. It’s a new and comfortable one floor, three bedroom place with a deck and pool. There is a little horse farm right in front of us and the beach and Mediterranean Sea is a 7 min walk.

Simpson Travel, the UK realtor we used to find the place provided a great customer experience. Roberto, their local rep greeted us and gave us a tour. They had provided a basket of food essentials for the first day / night which is huge.

We put the kids to bed and then watched the final episode of Game of Thrones! This show has been a part of our lives for years and it’s sad to see it end.
