Day 57: A picnic, frisbee and Sun El-Musician in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

Chill Sunday morning — slept in as we still adjust to the time change. Breakfast, home schooling and lunch at home.

We had planned to go to a Sun-El Musician concert in the Botanical Gardens with Luke and Meg. Tickets were sold out so we landed on a better plan: spread out on the lawn just outside the concert where you can hear the music, but have more picnic space and better views; and room to run around, play ball, throw the frisbee and wrestle in the grass. Luke and Meg are so good with the kids and Willa and James already adore them. They drove us home and came in for a quick look at the house. Really fun, relaxing Sunday.

Note to selves: plan a return trip to the Botanical Gardens. Beautiful place.

Story from Margaret: During school, Willa was reading aloud from her beloved “Critter Club” series. This time the book was about a character whose dad was remarrying after a divorce. She turned to Margaret and goes, “That’s not going to happen to our family.” Margaret reassured her that that was true, and tried to wrap up the convo. But Willa insisted, adding, “You guys have your own whole language and so many inside jokes!” In case anyone was wondering if kids pay attention to their parents’ relationship status…
