Day 45: Total Chill Downtime on Our Last Day in the Rainforest

We woke up still on an Amazon high, but looking forward to a full day at lovely Mirante do Gavaio with nothing to do.

Breakfast included the selection of breads, jams, tropical fruits and juices that we loved on the boat.

We dropped off most of our clothes at the front desk for a much needed trip to the laundry.

We then returned to the room for 90 – 120 minutes of school. Margaret reported the “best school day yet” for headstrong Willa who can sometimes rage against any assignment that isn’t immediately fun.

We were blessed with great weather on the boat cruise but I had actually been hoping for a legit rain shower. We can’t go to the rainforest during the rainy season and not see any rain. It was timed perfectly: we watched during our outdoor but undercover lunch, feeling a bit of the mist while we ate. Then it cleared up for several hours.

We had the pool to ourselves for the rest of the afternoon. Comfortable water temps allowed Willa and James to be in the pool for hours. I was in and out, taking breaks for a few pages of a Jack Reacher novel and a short nap.

Margaret went paddle boarding and saw our friends the pink dolphins once again. Impressive skills for a first timer!

We ordered a caipirinha at the pool around 5, couldn’t resist taking second to the room and then found that they don’t offer single glasses of wine at the restaurant. So we split a bottle. We both had our first mini hangover headaches of the trip — just in time for a monster travel day.
