Day 34: Travel Day — Goodbye Chile — Hello Brazil!
- Not our best night of sleep last night — Chilean music BLASTING in our apartment complex until well past 4am. Friday night in Valpo!
- Said goodbye to our little Airbnb loft at 7:45am.

- Arrived at the Santiago airport around 9:15 with a couple hours to kill before our flight to Rio.
- Found a lounge through our Priority Pass card / app (via Chase Sapphire credit card). It was nice to have a place to sit with WiFi, electricity and a few toys for the kids… and would have been nice to have a coffee and a bite.
- But the inedible buffet cemented what might be our lasting feeling on Chile: the food is terrible. Stale, unappetizing, warm when it’s supposed to be cold, cold when it’s supposed to be hot. We are baffled. Seems like a huge opportunity! A solid, healthy tasty restaurant that actually cares about the dining experience would kill it. What are we missing here… is it a cultural thing that Chileans don’t really care about food? How is that possible?
- Despite the food, we really enjoyed our time in Chile. Nice to take a bit of a breath between two more aggressively scheduled countries (Peru and Brazil).
- Landed around 5:30pm, Ubered to our hotel to our Hotel on the beach in Copacabana. Beautiful summer Saturday evening. Tons of activity and energy.
- We tipped the bellhops for helping with our bags and they promptly delivered a soccer ball to James. Must be in Brazil.

- We dragged our feet booking this hotel so we don’t have connecting rooms. I’m with James on the 5th floor and Margaret is with Willa on the 2nd.
- Took a quick swim on the roof while grownups had Caipirinhas
- Then had a nice meal in the Italian restaurant on the first floor.
- I listened to a Duke victory over UVA on streaming radio (can’t get the video) as James slept.
